<Introduction>
서론

In English, there are a lot of differences between the two ways of __EXPRESSION‎__, speaking and writing. There are not only differences of characteristics but also differences in required skills.

영어에는 의사표현으로 대화체와 문장체의 두가지에서 큰 차이를 가집니다. 그 특징에서도 그러하지만 구사하는 능력에서 그런 것을 발견하지요.

Spoken English is the medium used in speech while written English is used in writing. There are differences such as the use of grammar and vocabulary which also differ according to whether the person is speaking or writing to convey information.

대화식의 영어는 말이란 수단을 이용합니다만, 글일 경우에는 문장으로 남깁니다. 그리고 문법과 단어선정에서도 말하는 사람이나 글쓰는 사람에서 의사전달에 차이가 있읍니다.

<Characteristics of spoken English>
회화체의 영어특징은 이러 합니다.

Spoken English is generally less formal than written language. This appearance of discourse particles show that spoken English is very dynamic and immediate, hence there is much less precision in it. Furthermore, we almost do think and speak at the same time, this results in losing construction, repetition, rephrasing and comment clauses.

대화체는 일반적으로 문장보다는 덜 형식적이지요. 서술하는 과정에서 말로 하면 좀더 '다이나�'하고 즉각적이지만 한편 정확성에서는 매우 미흡한 점이 있지요. 말할 때는 생각한 것이 곧바로 표현되기 때문에 그 말이 입밖에 일단 나온 것을 다시 고칠 수가 없읍니다

<Required skills when speaking English>
영어를 말할때는 기술을 요합니다.

We almost think and speak at the same time so there is no time lag between the process of producing speech. We also have to make use much more of gestures, eye contact and body language. All of these are parts of communication, thus skills required for spoken English is very difficult to improve.

생각한 것이 바로 말로 튀어나오는 고로 바로 잡을 시간적 여유가 없지요. 대신에 몸짓 발짓, 눈을 마주친다던지 하는 것으로 그 모자라는 점을 보충합니다. 이것 모두가 다 의사전달의 하나인 고로 영어를 회화로써 구사할 때는 기술이 필요하기 때문에 대화술을 높이기가 매우 어렵습니다.

문장식의 영어표현의 특징은 이렇오.

Written language is often more articulate and sophisticated than spoken language. While spoken English is most often unplanned, written English is most often planned. One difference that exists between spoken and written English is the distinction between the phonic and the graphic substances – this is obvious. Once we write down something for someone to read, "that must be precise."

문장은 그 쓰는 말이 분명해야 합니다. 대화체와는 상당히 세련돼야 한다고나 할까. 말하는 것의 대부분이 미리 계획해서 하는 것이 아니나 문장은 사전에 무슨 내용을 쓸까를 생각해놓습니다. 이 두가지의 방법에서 말할 것도 없이 음성의 소리나 겉에 보여지는 것의 차이가 분명한 것은 말할 것도 없고, 일단 뭔가 쓴 것을 남에게 읽히게 하려면 "정확하게 기술하는 것이 절대적"이지요.

Another obvious aspect of the written word opposed to speech is that language is more formal when written than when spoken because "written English uses standard grammar".

또 하나 분명이 다른 것은 문장일 경우는 회화식 보다는 훨씬 형식적이고 또한 "기본 문장법"을 사용해야 한다는 겁니다.

<Required skills when writing English>
영어로 문장을 쓸때 필요한 기술은 뭔가?

If we intend to write a good text – a text that appeal readers which are coherent and successfully transmit our idea, thought or some kind of message – we need to pay attention to things as follows.

좋은 내용의 글을 쓰고자 하면 그 내용이 독자들에게 호소력이 이는 것이어야 하며 그것이 일관성있게 전달돼야 하지요. 이 점에서 필자들은 각별히 주의를 경주해야 합네다.

First, using "precise vocabulary" for precise meaning. Reading plenty of English books or magazines, the newspaper can help us earn a huge amount of vocabulary. Furthermore, by reading many books, we gain many ways to transform one idea into a sentence but using the variety of grammar structure,

첫째로 챙길 것은 "합당한 단어를 골라써야 하지요. 책이나, 잡지 등등을 읽는 것이 좋은 단어를 구사하는 데에 도움이 됩니다. 나아가서 거기서 필자가 어떻게 자기 생각을 한 문장으로 구성해 나가는 것도 함께 배울 수가 있지요. 물론 여러가지 작문법의 구성도 동시에 얻을 수가 있오.

Second, it is necessary to make sure that what you are writing is on the subject we want to present. Thus make a careful choice of the content, what we are going to write. We often use an inconsistent structure for lists or headings. To avoid this, reword where necessary to make the items parallel. In addition, "grammar structures used in texts should be used in ways which are compatible with the field of the subject."

두번째로는 자기가 지금 쓰고 있는 주제가 과연 제대로 써지고 있는가를 살펴야 합니다. 따라서 그 내용선정을 할때 세심한 고려가 필요하구요. 우리들이 제목이나 인용하는 부분이 본 내용과 상통하지 않는 글을 쓸 경우가 종종 있지요. 이를 피하기 위하여 필요한 말을 일렬로 나열해보고 그 말들이 중복되지 않도록 처리해야 합니다. 더욱이 조심할 것은 자기의 글내용이 그 분야의 주제와 문법 상으로 걸맞게 쓰여지고 있는가도 살펴야 하지요.

발표할 '이�'의 중요성

Writing can solidify ideas and thoughts, and allow you to reflect on them better than if the ideas remained evolving in your head. It is one of the ways that we translate our thoughts for other people. Some people are better at expressing themselves in writing than any other way, and you thus get a better translation when you read what they have to say rather than hearing them speak.

어떤이에게는 자기가 생각한 것을 발표하는데 있어서 쓰기가 말하기 보다는 훨신 도움이 됩니다만, 사람에 따라서 대화형식을 택하는 것이 더욱 효과적인 결과를 낼 수도 있지요.

Writing assists you with other language tasks as well. You learn how to make a logical argument, or how to persuade, mainly through writing. Speaking can help you learn those things as well, but it is easier to self-examine and evaluate how to improve when you have something concrete in front of you and can revise. In particular, global integration is a tendency in the recent epoch, sharing news, and information beyond local are in essential demands.

한편 영어가 아닌 다른 언어로 전달해야 할 경우에는 문장이 많은 도움을 줍니다. 논리적인 논쟁이나 남을 설득할 적에는 문장이 우월하다 할 수가 있오. 그러나 자신을 사람들 앞에서 어떻게 구체적으로 점검하고 개선할 수 있는가 하는 점에서는 대화체가 더 바람직하다고 볼 수 있읍니다. 특히 지금같은 '그로벌 시대'에 자기 만의 영역을 넘어 서서 남과 새로운 소식과 정보를 교환하는 시대에서는 더욱 그렇다고 말할 수가 있읍니다.

<Conclusion>
결론으로 말씀드려서,

I believe that both the written and spoken language, with all the differences and similarities, are both parts of a whole communication within society, between the various members, a communication which is there, ideally, to produce both better ideas and better relationships inside itself and out, towards other societies.

내 생각으로는 대화식이나 문장식이나 그 차이와 근사치을 접어두고, 둘 다 이 사회에서 요구되는 의사전달의 중요한 매개체이며, 이를 통하여 우리 모두들의 생각과 더 좋은 內的(내적)관계와 나아가서 다른 영어권 밖의 사회구성원들에게도 더 좋은 결과를 가져오는 수단이라고 결론짓읍니다.
